MBNA Sony Card - 4 Day Free Flash Walkman promotion. Waste of time.
On Monday 11th June at 5pm I received this email from OMG who are a UK affiliate network promoting the MBNA range of credit cards:
MBNA are pleased to announce a free Sony 512MB flash WALKMAN for every customer that takes out a SonyCard.
MBNA are offering a bonus offer of 11,000 pulsebeats to customers that take out a SonyCard, as long as the card is used for any purchase within 90 days of the account opening. This is enough points to redeem against a free Sony 512MB flash WALKMAN.
Great I thought, as the last time MBNA ran this offer, it lasted a good few months and generated an uplift in credit card sales. Then, today Friday 15th June at 3.30pm I receive this email from OMG:
The new Sony card incentive, where customers will receive a free Sony 512MB flash Walkman when they take out the Sony Card, has exceeded all expectations and therefore we would like to inform affiliates that we will be reverting back to the standard product this morning.
So never mind when “this morning” actually is, as its 3.30pm; but a promotion can’t just end after almost 4 days can it? I really get tired of all this “exceeded all expectations” rubbish. I mean they must have grossly and hugely underestimated demand if the free gifts only lasted 4 days! Especially as last time this promotion ran it was for at least a couple of months.
So come on MBNA Sony Card, don’t make us rewrite copy/update product tables and then ask us to do it again 4 days later. Surely you can do better than that?
